With the support of Deri at Northgate Church, on Sunday 7th December as part of the service, we cleared leaves and picked up litter for our residents. Through the prayer group, over 700 newsletters were delivered to community residents and businesses. Becca’s hand made invitations to Christmas events were delivered to streets around Christ Church. The Saturday before Christmas we held a reminiscence afternoon which saw about 70 people attend church, many of those were born and bred here but had not visited for many years. The next day, through Ike, we took carol singing into the community.
It is exciting also to see many ideas which have previously been purely conceptual beginning to look like the imminent birth of projects. Please join with me in praying for the following which will hopefully take off in the next month or so:
• A pilot detached youth work led by Jane Rudd in partnership with the Light Project
• A parent and toddler group, possibly in partnership with a local Christian group
• Visiting some of the sheltered accommodation in the middle and top ends of the Parish; perhaps taking communion to those who cannot access church.
• Facilitating a Residents Association for those living in the terraces in Newtown.
Our community building, the Mission House, situated near church in the centre of Newtown, has the potential to be such a useful neutral community space. However, as many of you have seen, it is in a poor state; riddled with damp, repair needed to the main roof and the toilet roof, downstairs flooring and the boiler needs replacing. We have groups ready to use the building. Please see the prayer point, below.
